This
1890’s home was once occupied by one of Mason City’s signature
families, “The Decker’s”. Jacob E. Decker purchased the
Decker Meat Packing Plant, which was located in Mason City’s north
end, for
$6000.00 in 1901. The plant proved to be a thriving business for the Decker’s
and for Mason City’s economy. The plant was sold to Armour Meat Packing
Plant in 1935 for 4.972 million dollars and closed for good in 1975.
Purchased by the Mason
City Foundation, the Decker House was renovated as a bed and breakfast,
and is becoming a popular getaway
for those looking for the comfort and intimacy found in hotels.

| The
Neoclassical home, with its champagne-colored exterior, greets visitors
in a foyer of gleaming oak floors. The large parlor is among the first areas
to view the many beautiful antiques. Deep blue Victorian settees, chairs
and other 1890s accents provide a comfortable setting. Breakfast served
in a sunny dining area in the west room. The Decker House also has a full-service
kitchen that provides meals for both the B & B and the Sour Grapes Bistro.
A beautiful staircase of walnut and oak takes you to the second floor past
impressive carnival glass lighting. |

There
are four rooms on the second floor, the Rose Room, the Iris Room, the Marigold
Room, and the Daisy Room. Each elegant room is accented with vintage dressers
and bedroom sets, original woodwork, trim and 1890s details. Each room also
has its own TV and private bath and shower, outfitted with replica fixtures.
In some, the original tile floor has been restored. The Lily Room, located
on the first floor is handicap accessible. All rooms are non-smoking. |

| The
third floor is a large Jacuzzi suite elegantly decorated in a beautiful
shade of pale yellow and white. This is the ultimate setting for those who
seek privacy and intimacy. A inviting bathroom of white and gold is the
perfect place to relax in a Jacuzzi tub after a long day of site seeing
or your wedding day. |
